H is for……….Hollywood stars

Camp's A - ZEach session at International Summer Camp Montana we have some budding ‘Hollywood stars’ in our midst………  All of our Senior Campers are the stars of the Senior Movie!  This special movie is produced as a long lasting memory of their time at camp.  The movie production has evolved with time and no two movies have ever been exactly the same, so returning campers always get to see something unique.  The main theme always stands – remembering all of the friendships forged and fun experiences at sports and activities!  At the end of the session, our campers have an opportunity to buy a dvd copy as a small momento and it’s fair to say that in recent times we’ve definitely seen some Oscar winning performances!

Fact # 34 – Where were ‘Stunt Nights’ held before the clubroom was built?

50 Facts - Summer Camp MontanaLast week’s fact -  What was the original proposal for the extension underneath the terrace?

A.

As we know, the extension underneath the terrace is home to both the dining hall and clubroom at camp.  However, the original plans included a space for an indoor swimming pool and gym hall!  It was determined that this idea would probably not be the best use of the space and a dining hall, as well as clubroom were more important.  Besides, during the summer it is far more fun to be relaxing beside or playing in our outdoor pool!

Q.

One of the primary functions of the clubroom is to host our campers’ ‘Stunt Night’ and ‘Entertain The Specialists’.  The staff ‘Stunt Night’ has been held in the circus tent since 2006, but was previously held in the clubroom too.  However, before the clubroom was built, the all of these evening activities and performances were held in a different location.  Do you know where the ‘Stunt Nights’ were held before the clubroom was built?

We will reveal the answer to this ‘Fascinating Fact’ in the next blog!

Do you think you have what it takes?

Welcome to the latest blog from International Summer Camp Montana and we hope that you are well, wherever you might be reading from in the World!  November is here and the clocks have changes across the World, bringing the end of ‘Summer Time’ for 2011 in the Northern hemisphere.  Of course, those of you in the Southern reaches of the World will be preparing yourself for summer now!  Regardless of where you are though, we hope that you enjoyed the extra hour in your bed!

As well as daylight savings, this time of year signals the beginning of people making their plans for the following summer.  There are many campers already enrolled for our summer program in 2012 but it will soon be time for camp to consider its staffing requirements.

The honour of being a staff member at International Summer Camp Montana is something special and is an extreme privilege; there are but a chosen few every summer!  Not only is it an opportunity to work with and enrich the summers of a group of children from all over our World, but it is an experience that many will never forget.  The possibility of working with people from many different cultures, backgrounds and upbringings is something that has to be savoured.

It could be under-estimated just how big an impact working at La Moubra has, for both staff members and their campers.  The friendships formed during these few weeks and months over a summer season are bonds that are kept throughout time and it amazing what these lucky few will have in common for the rest of their lives.  Though many people come in and then go out of our own ‘World’ during time, it is incredible to see the unity and friendships that have been formed with ISCM as the common element.  The global network one gains has the reach that goes far and wide, through almost every major city and each country in the World.

So do you think you have what it takes to join the staff of International Summer Camp Montana, or know of someone who might be interested in applying to work for the summer of 2012?  Each summer we require around 120 staff for the program at camp, comprising of counselors, specialist sports instructors, nurses and administrative staff.  We are always on the look-out for those with ‘special talents’ in all areas and activities that we offer on the program and naturally applicants must be passionate about working with children and not scared of a little hard work!

Whilst we want to hear from those who feel that they can offer us their skills, talents, passion and enthusiasm, what camp offers to the successful applicants is quite simple.  An unforgettable experience, in spectacular surroundings, meeting and working with people from all over our World.  Thousands of former staff members can testify to this; do you think you have what it takes to be one of our chosen few?  For more information on working at International Summer Camp Montana, go to the staff section of our website, or alternatively feel free to contact us.

G is for……….Golf

Camp's A - Z
One sport that has been on the program at camp for many years (and is also what  the town of Crans-Montana is well-known for during summer) is golf.  The golf area at International Summer Camp Motana is a perfect way to learn, develop and improve one’s game!  The driving net can accommodate 4 players at one time and there is also a putting green adjacent the the hitting area.

Our specialist golf instructor is able to teach the fundamentals of golf, whilst also helping those with experience build on their skills.  We even take campers to a 9 hole  pitch and putt course in nearby Vermala for ‘Open Activity’ time if they are particularly keen, putting what they have learnt into practice!

Keep watching the blog over the near future for some exciting updates about our golf program for summer 2012!

Fact # 33 – What was the original proposal for the extension underneath the terrace?

50 Facts - Summer Camp MontanaLast week’s fact -  In which summer was the dining hall first used?

A.

As part of significant developments to camp, the dining hall was first used in the summer of 1989.  During this construction, the ‘garden floor’ rooms and clubroom were added, as well as the spectacular terrace area which looks to the South.  Originally the dining hall was where our camp lounge and infirmary are now!  As is true for many construction programs of this size, time was of the essence and there was an incredible amount to build in a short space of time.  It’s a little known fact that the grass that sits in-front of the garden floor rooms was actually rolled out on the day before the first arrival day of summer 1989!  Now that’s good (Swiss) timing!

Q.

As we have just learned, the terrace was built in 1989 and underneath it the dining hall, clubroom and garden floor rooms were ultimately built as well.  However, initial plans were remarkably different and there were other functions proposed for the space on the lower levels.  What do you think could have been the original proposal for the extension underneath the terrace?

We will reveal the answer to this ‘Fascinating Fact’ in the next blog!
