What does your perfect day look like? Relaxing by the swimming pool? Maybe playing sports in the great outdoors? How about eating food from a magnificent buffet and then being whisked off to party in the company of many friends? Well, if these things sound good to you, then you’d love to be a Senior camper during a session at ISCM. On the last Tuesday of a session at camp the Seniors have what is known as ‘Super Tuesday’. Although we mentioned this in our A-Z, we thought you’d like to known more!

Not only is Super Tuesday the only time (at present) when the entire Senior section of campers are together in camp, but there are also quite a few special events as well!

It all starts like a normal day of sports and activities, not forgetting a hearty breakfast! However, at 1200 there is a chance to show of your basketball skills in both the ‘Slam Dunk’ competition, as well as the ‘Campers vs. Staff’ basketball game. Those feeling less energetic have the chance to spectate or even just relax by the swimming pool.

Lunch is also a little different from a standard day; try eating hot dogs and a salad selection outside on the terrace! In addition, our campers love having chilled water, ice-tea and (as an extra treat) Coca-Cola to wash it all down! It’s such a good lunch that a siesta afterwards is definitely in order! The remainder of the afternoon is comprised of two further programmed activities and then the opportunity for our campers to undertake a further sporting challenge against our staff; this time, it’s soccer!

After all this physical activity, it’s now time to get cleaned up and ready for what everyone has been waiting for……. the ‘Diner de Gala’! A feast that has to be seen to be believed and a selection of food that gives something for everyone to enjoy. Needless to say, the selection of deserts seem to be the most popular choice!

The penultimate stage on the Super Tuesday ‘journey’ for our campers is to ‘Club Xellent’ where they can party with their friends under the watchful eye of their counselors. The counselors have also been known to show off a few dance moves as well! All that leaves is the short bus journey home and just enough time to get ready for bed. After a day like Super Tuesday, everyone is ready for a bit of sleep!

A.

Let’s start with the more obvious methods of transport. Naturally, we always expect campers to arrive with their parents by car at camp, both by private car or taxi. Then, many campers arrive by aeroplane at one of the various airports close to camp. More often than not, they are collected and brought to camp by bus with our airport transfer service. Then, there are the less obvious means. In the past there have been campers who lived in Crans-Montana and they would normally arrive by foot, not just on arrival day, but every day!

And, there was a very special arrival during the summer of 1989. An Italian family were running a few days late for their stay at camp and decided that helicopter was the best way to get there! The helicopter landed on the soccer pitch and really was a sight to behold! The law has since changed that helicopters can only land next to the fire station in Montana, and only in an emergency (e.g. when a mountain rescue is required during the Winter). The nearest ‘regular’ landing spot to camp is actually located lower down the mountain in Chermingnon.

Q.

There have been a number of different Head Counselors since the 1970‘s and since all sections at camp had their own Head Counselor. You might be surprised to know what all their different nationalities have been though! Can you guess what the different nationalities of our Head Counselors have been?

We will reveal the answer to this ‘Fascinating Fact’ in the next blog!

Welcome to the latest blog from International Summer Camp Montana and we hope that you are well, wherever you might be reading from in the World! We would all like to wish you a happy and healthy new year for 2012 from La Moubra.

For the first blog of this year, we wanted to show you just how different La Moubra looks from the summer season this year. We have had a particularly snowy winter and this has left an incredible amount of snow around the grounds of ISCM.

Would you like to go on the basketball court, take a dip in the swimming pool, go to your English lesson in Hall 8 or even try to enter a room on the garden floor? Well, there is just so much snow that all of these things are impossible without a good amount of digging and lots of patience! Just look at some of the pictures that we have taken over since the turn of the year!
