Magical memories

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Greetings again from the International Summer Camp Montana blog wherever you may be this week.  The sun is shining bright in Crans-Montana and the camp is very busy with final maintenance, grass-cutting and administration work.  There is just 1 week to go until our staff arrives and 2 weeks until our first campers will be welcomed to La Moubra.

This week’s our blog article focuses on a relatively new addition to International Summer Camp Montana; the camp ‘motto’.  In the 50 years that ISCM has existed, there has always been a strong focus on equal opportunity, understanding different cultures and promoting healthy lifestyles.  However, in 2006 we had our first camp motto; a word or words that would go on to define our summers and promote thoughts about our experiences at La Moubra.  Each year the camp motto is printed on a bracelet which all campers and staff receive.  The bracelet is always the same colour as that year’s camp colour.

The following have been camp mottos since 2006 -

2006  “Friendship”

2007  “Fair Play”

2008  “Imagination”

2009  “Unforgettable”

2010  “Sports and Peace”

Such words the words and phrases are not only applicable to life at camp; they are also relevant to each an every thing that we do in our lives.

For 2011, the 50th year of International Summer Camp Montana motto will be ‘Magical Memories’.  We hope that all our campers, both past and present, will have magical memories from their stay at La Moubra!

Many rooms with a view (and what a view it is!)

Welcome back blog readers and I certainly hope that you have had great week.  The weather in Crans-Montana has been fantastic during the last 7 days and it really does look and feel like Spring has arrived.  I’d love to tell you that things are the same in my home town of Dunblane, Scotland; unfortunately we’ve had snow, wind, rain and cold!  As many of you will know though, this sounds like Summer in Scotland!

This week we are going to start by rewinding our clocks around 18 months, to November 2009.  At this time, we posted an article on the blog regarding one of the most significant and exciting developments in Camp’s history; the construction of Residence Erica.

A brief history of our time……. so far

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Good day to you blog readers and we all hope you are doing well this week!  As you can see from the last post on the blog, our picture tells you that even though it is still Winter, the Summer is not too far off!  This week will be the 9th week of our regular blog updates and there has been quite a lot of information about the history of Camp and La Moubra.  This week, we thought it might be useful to give you a brief history of our time so far together!

The real story of camp begins in 1926 when the construction of La Moubra started; it completed in 1927.  For the following 25 years, until 1952, it was used as a private clinic for patients who suffered from lung disease.  Crans-Montana is still famous today for the cleanliness and healthiness of its air!  For the next 3 years La Moubra was under Belgian ownership, but still used a clinic.  The building then became a hotel in 1955 and remained there until 1961.

A Very International Summer Camp

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Welcome back blog readers and we hope that you have had another great week!  It is hard to believe that we have already reached the final blog of February and now the month of March is here and we are nearer Spring!  This week also signals that there are just 16 weeks until the beginning of the 2011 Summer season.  This latest installment will touch on the International aspects of camp, the letter ‘G’ in our A-Z feature and another ‘Fascinating Fact’.  Moreover, there is also a competition for you to enter!  For more details about how to enter, please read on.

For now though, we turn the focus to just how ‘International’ International Summer Camp Montana has become.  Over the past 50 years ISCM has established itself as a unique and special place in the hearts and minds of thousands of children and adults alike.   Through sports, activities and above all fun, our Summer Camp in beautiful surroundings has had the privilege of uniting people from many different cultures and backgrounds.

ISCM Staff in California

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Over the last 50 years not only have a lot of children attend International Summer Camp Montana but also a lot of fantastic people have worked at camp. During November 2009 the assistant to the directors, Danny Herberich met up with staff members past and present in California. Please find below photos of the 2 reunions, the first features staff members from many years ago and the second more recent staff members.

It is nice to see that the friendships formed by our staff members while at camp have remained and that they still keep in contact after all these years.
