A picture says 1000 words

There is a famous phrase that many of you will know – ‘A picture says 1000 words’.  If this is true, then camp’s Photography program would be able to fill a whole library of books!

Photography is a relatively recent addition to the program at International Summer Camp Montana, becoming an activity in 2008.  Already, it is one of the most anticipated and popular with campers and staff alike.  It provides a fantastic opportunity for campers of all ages to be creative and use their ‘artistic licence’.  After all, the scenery and activities all around camp provides the perfect stage for many special photographic memories; right from the first steps from the door of our photography room and beyond!

Camp provides cameras to campers and they are encouraged to share the the equipment and work as a ‘team’ to tackle the photographic challenges set by the specialist.  However, if a camper does have their own camera with them at camp, they can use this too and are encouraged to only bring it to ‘Open Activities’.  Just don’t forget to keep it in the safe in the room or Camp Bank when it’s not with you!

Campers are given approximately 30 minutes to go explore camp grounds and to take their pictures.  The younger sections may be supervised when doing this, but the counsellor or specialist always take a view from ‘afar’ to allow minimum intervention in the creative process.  The results of our campers’ work can be, put quite simply, ‘stunning’.  Here are some examples of what was created during summer 2010.
