Q.
It is a well known fact that the British were behind the creation of many Winter sports, such as skiing, mountain climbing and curling in the late 19th century. Moreover, it was the outdoor minded British who were responsible for the creation of famous resorts such as Zermatt and St Moritz in Switzerland. And on a sun-drenched plateau in the Valais, the Brits also established Crans and Montana.
However, Crans and Montana were not always ‘twinned’ as the resort we know today, Crans-Montana. Montana was founded in 1893 when the Hotel du Parc was built on a few hundred metres above where La Moubra stands. The resort of Crans however, was not founded until 1930.
This week we want you to guess how long did it take before the two resorts of Crans and Montana united to become Crans-Montana?

We will reveal the answer to this week’s ‘Fascinating Fact’ in next week’s blog!
Last week’s fact – What year camp welcomed its first Russian camper? In addition to this, do you know the year that the first Chinese camper was welcomed at camp?
A.
It was only relatively recently that Russian campers started to come to International Summer Camp Montana. Due to the sweeping social and political changes that occurred in the late 1980’s, the first camper from Russia arrived at camp in 1991. However, it is even more recent that we have had our first campers from China! It was just 2 summers ago in 2009 when our first Chinese visitors spent 3 weeks of their summer at La Moubra!
There was not a competition winner for February as nobody who entered the content got the right answer! Therefore, the prize will rollover into March’s competition.
